Cool Runnings was a vehicle designed and constructed in 1994-1995. It was LAAE's first solar-powered racer, built with supplemental battery storage. The first race was in July 1995 at Winston Solar Challenge in Dallas, Texas, in which it won first place overall.
Cool Runnings was LAAE's first solar-powered racer. It was designed with 608 Solec International silicon solar cells, with 6 AC Delco Remy Gel Cell batteries. Cool Runnings ultimately measured 232 x 48 x 45 inches with an estimated weight of about 800 pounds.
